Malibu Creek Rock Pool & Century Lake Hiking and Swimming

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Difficulty: Easy

Distance: 5.1 roundtrip

Time: 1-2 hours

Availability: Year-round

The Malibu Creek Rock Pool and Century Lake #hike is 5.1 mile round-trip #trail located near #Calabasas and is good for all skill levels. The trail is an easy walk down oak shaded paths. Just before reaching a bridge that crosses #Malibu #Creek, make a right on another wide trail. After a short distance, this trail turns to the right, but you should continue straight ahead on the unmarked but well-worn path to #Rock #Pool. The path follows the creek that flows out the bottom of Rock Pool, passing a popular climbing rock called Planet of the Apes Wall (because Planet of the Apes was filmed here). When you get to Rock Pool you'll see vertical walls of volcanic rock and a green pool. At certain times of the year the pool is deep enough to #cliff #jump.

If you are a risk-taker and gung-ho...like me, you can cliff jump off a nearby rock. Some higher risk-takers and straight up bad-asses even scale the volcanic rock wall and jump from there. Crazy! Take the path down to Century Lake and you'll be met with a beautiful #picturesque #lake with a picnic bench for a great place to stop for lunch and cool dip.

In the summer this is a very popular hike and the Rock Pool and Century Lake can get pretty crowded. I would suggest avoiding going on the weekends. Those with more time and energy can continue on several miles past Century Lake to the site of the old M.A.S.H television series.
